Idiosyncrasy

A Video Portrait

of my Grandma

For the woman who left in the middle of a movie to use her bathroom at home.

It has been almost a year since my grandma passed away last May. Idiosyncrasy is video piece composed of home video footage, old pictures, and narrated audio central to my relationship with my grandma. It works to combat the complexity and meaning behind cross-generational relationships, the impact of mentors, love, and loss. Rooted in the particulars of our relationship, I realized we shared a lot more in common than just the same smile. Exploring her character in parallel to my own as a means of self-discovery, I reflect on my relationship with the woman I all too easily see myself becoming.
